In India, it is finally D-Day for women’s cricket. The media rights for the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) are being auctioned off today. For the rights, the top 3 broadcasters and OTT services in the nation will submit their bids.
The WIPL Media Rights are up for grabs, and the three big dogs—Disney Plus, Sony-ZEE Combine, and Viacom 18—are all in the running. By Monday afternoon, the BCCI may reveal the BIDS’s victor. Starting at 10 a.m, the Taj Santa Cruz is hosting the proposal submission.
Earlier, there was a four-day delay in the media rights auction. The best, but perhaps not highest, bidder will be chosen to receive the rights after a closed bidding procedure.
It’s important to note that India is auctioning off women’s cricket rights for the first time. As a result of the auction, benchmarks for the commercialisation of women’s cricket in India will be established.
Bidding war among Disney Plus, ZEE-SONY and Viacom
Women’s IPL 2023 Media Rights: A three-way bidding war will begin on Monday, with Disney Plus, ZEE-SONY, and Viacom preparing their bids.
No one wants to miss the bus because women’s cricket is seen by all three of the big broadcasters as the “growth vehicle” for the game of cricket.
On January 16, bid forms will be submitted in order to compete for media rights. December 31 marked the end of the tender purchasing period. More than ten companies have chosen the bidding document, according to BCCI officials, including Disney Plus, Sony Network, and Viacom 18.
Also released is the tender for WIPL franchises. The first season of the WIPL in 2023 is anticipated to run from March 3 to March 26.
According to knowledgeable BCCI staff, in addition to the top 3, Amazon Prime, FanCode, Times Internet, Google, and Discovery also selected the Tender Documents. However, it is yet unclear which of these parties will be submitting bids.
