When Diogo Jota came to Liverpool, it must have been a bit of a surprise to many. Relatively unknown to the masses, Jota has made a name for himself in Merseyside.
He is now the subject of a popular Liverpool terrace song and soon, he might be joined by another Jota who is also making a name for himself in the Champions League.
Playing for Celtic, João Pedro Neves Filipe aliás Jota impressed in the group stages of the Champions league, matching the famous Ousmane Dembélé of Barcelona for the most shot-creating actions or seven.
Even more impressive is that he is playing for a Scottish side that is not part of the big European clubs that are dominating the game for years.
Nevertheless, it must be known that the name Jota is only a nickname for the Celtic player as it is for the Liverpool star. The real name of the Liverpool Jota is Diogo José Teixeira da Silva.
However, there is now a push for Liverpool to look into snatching Jota from Celtic and that would mean there will be Jota playing for the Reds if that were to happen.
Celtic’s Jota is earning praise for his performances in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk.
It is clear that the other Jota has become a key player for Celtic under coach Ange Postecoglou.
Transfermarkt values him at just £6.75 million, but that figure is sure to rise if his performances continue at this level. While his Champions League efforts have yet to result in goals, he has four goals and four assists in just six league matches this season.
Reports are saying Liverpool could be interested in the player. Will a player from the Scottish league perform and survive in the English Premier League?
At Liverpool, they seem to believe that anyone can become a star if they are under the spell of Jurgen Klopp who has weaved his magic around the club, winning the EPL and the Champions League altogether.
Liverpool: 5 players that were snubbed from the World Cup
Liverpool has been having a lot of mixed reviews as of late, Jurgen Klopp appears to be doing his best for the reds. They had scored 3-1 against Southampton right before the split of the Premier League into the World Cup phase.
Liverpool has also been quiet when it comes to drama, in stark contrast to what Manchester United is going through right now. Furthermore, in one of their matches against Tottenham, their opponent was booed by their own fans.
Other than that, Mukesh Ambani has shown a deep interest in the club and is willing to help them afford new players that might help them in the next Premier League. Klopp was in some hot waters for stating that Manchester City is using “Arab” money, but nevertheless they have been clean.
Unfortunately, there are some prominent Liverpool player that did not make the cut to the World Cup.
Liverpool players getting the much needed rest and recovery over the World Cup period:

Let’s go out and attack the second half of the season 💪
Anfield’s twitter account stated a list of Liverpool players that are “resting” for the World Cup duration, due to the intense stresses that was inflicted upon them to rush the Premier League and Champions League.
Netizens have a thing or two to say about Keita, who they all claim has been “resting” since he signed for Liverpool. Furthermore, fans claimed that he has been resting for the three years he has been in Liverpool.
Here is the list of snubbed Liverpool players:
Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara has a number of achievements as a footballer, and was regarded as one of Spain’s best footballers in his younger years. He won the U21 Euros twice, and not many players can contest that.
He has been regarded as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders and has contributed a lot to Liverpool. However, he is 31-years-old and has seen better days. The Spaniard, who is Italian born, joined Barcelona at the tender age of 14-years-old.
It could possibly be due to him wanting a rest period between the two sections of the Premier League.
Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez, the 25-year-old English player has been with Liverpool since 2015. He signed the Reds for a mere £3.5 million five year contract back then. Furthermore, he played in the finals for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.
It was stated that he was close to being called up to join the World Cup, but another player took his spot. He struggled with injuries in his early football days but has seemed to have recovered from it all.
Roberto Firmino

Apparently it was confident that Roberto Firmino would’ve joined this year’s World Cup. He scored seven goals for his team in the Premier League and just like the others on this list, had an impressive background.
Having a ratio of scoring seven goals in 13 games is no mean feat. Furthermore, the 31-year-old started his career all the way back in 2009 with Figueirense. The Brazilian was outperformed by his peers Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex, the 29-year-old Englishman was also not selected for this round. He rose in popularity while playing for Southampton during the 2010-2011 season at the tender age of 17-years-old.
He played 198 games and has scored over 20 goals. Slightly lesser than his peers, but still impressive nevertheless.
Harvey Elliott

Last but not least, Harvey Elliot. The 19-year-old English man was also not selected by Gareth Southgate. Both Alex and Harvey were not even in the consideration list done by Southgate to join the World Cup.
The both of them were only expected to be included if one of England’s wingers got injured. A mix of fortunate and unfortunate, none of the selected players were injured hence they did not get a slot in.
While the ongoing rumours of Matheus Nunes moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers, it is said that Liverpool is also making a bid for the midfielder. The bold move of Nunes joining Wolves has angered Liverpool fans as they have been eyeing him for quite some time.
One of the reasons why Liverpool isn’t grabbing him is due to the cost, which as stated earlier is pretty high. It exceeds the amount their management is willing to buy a new player for. Coach Klopp has however mentioned that he will be perfectly fine with other players.
It is reported that it will cost Wolves £42 million to buy Nunes, which shows the level of his ability. He has helped play an important part in Sporting Lisbon’s success recently. They won both the league and cup in Portugal.
The rumours started since then, especially when he became more renowned as the European clubs are hungry for new blood on the field. Unfortunately no offers have officially been made yet which would make him drift further towards Wolves.
One of Liverpool’s current problems is with the midfield and fans are calling for more players to be added there.
Jamie Carragher, a defender who played for Liverpool having a 17 year career with them publicly told them to only add new players when the time is right.
The former Liverpool defender said in the press “Liverpool’s first-choice midfield – and the one that played at Fulham – is getting towards the 30-age mark. “You think a younger and more energetic player at some stage is needed, they’ve got those players there in reserve but they’re all injured. I would only want Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool to do that if they get the midfielder they want.
“Liverpool’s success in the transfer market has been down to not panicking, it’s not what they’ve done in the past, it’s not what they’re doing now and it can’t be what they do in the future. If there’s no midfielder they want out there, don’t get him. But if they feel there’s one who has that quality and is available, I would like them to do it of course. But don’t panic.”
On the other hand, Elliott is proven to be Jurgen Klopp’s favourite. After his injury sustained at Leeds, his growth in playing was cut short.
Furthermore, according to reports, Liverpool is at the same time interested in giving their players more shine than pursuing a deal for a new player. This has contributed to their delays in trying to sign on Nunes.
Liverpool supporters shout “stay away” in response to Mohamed Salah transfer
The Saudi Pro League (SPL) director Michael Emenalo’s comments on Mohamed Salah have Liverpool supporters riled up on social media. This answer is a result of Al-Ittihad’s audacious £150 million offer for Salah earlier this summer. Liverpool politely rejected Salah’s request before the Premier League transfer market closed on September 1, which sparked an enraged reaction from the Anfield crowd.
Al-Ittihad continues to have its eye on Salah, and it is rumored that they would offer him a staggering £200 million to come to the Gulf state in 2019. The 31-year-old superstar may well be persuaded by the SPL’s growing attraction and a big wage increase.
Recently, Emenalo, who has served as Chelsea’s technical director for almost six years, was asked for his thoughts on the probable rise of this football guru.
Liverpool fans are angry
Fabrizio Romano replied; “Mo is welcome any time. But nobody is under pressure or forced to come. He’s a personal favorite of mine. If people want to come and there’s an opportunity to work with clubs in a professional manner, we’ll be pleased to have him.” an article from sportskeeda.com shared.
Salah begins the 2023–24 season with tremendous panache as he approaches contract renewal in June 2025.
His skill is evident in his 6 goals and 4 assists in just 748 minutes over 10 appearances for Liverpool.
A left-footed inside forward, his play is characterized by a trifecta of speed, flair, and lethal finishing.
a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool since moving there in 2017 from Chelsea and Roma.
192 goals and 83 assists throughout 315 games, serving as the foundation for seven trophy victories.
Stephen Warnock advises Liverpool on a suitable Mohamed Salah successor.
Stephen Warnock, a former defender for Liverpool, passionately suggests Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a lightning-quick attacker for Napoli, as a game-changer for the Reds. The legendary Mohamed Salah may have an heir in the 22-year-old phenom, who has accrued 15 goals and 21 assists in 52 compelling contests. Could Kvaratskhelia set Anfield ablaze next? Warnock thinks there is still more to the story.
Mohammed Salah said; “The one player that springs to mind is Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. He is the one player you [can] look at and think, young, potential, can play, but he is a left-sided player. Could he play on that right-hand side?” an article from sportskeeda.com shared.
Manchester City newcomer Josko Gvardiol received a warm welcome in England from former teammate Dominik Szoboszlai though now they are now in opposing camps, with Szoboszlai having moved to Liverpool.
Gvardiol was acquired by Manchester City in a long-awaited summer move, with a price tag of €90 million. The 21-year-old Croatian sensation signed on for five years with City, strengthening Pep Guardiola’s redoubtable line-up, which includes defensive mainstays John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte and Manuel Akanji.
Liverpool’s Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai welcomed Gvardiol’s arrival at Manchester City. “What a spieler. Congrats brother (neighbours),” he tweeted from Liverpool, also in North West England like Manchester.
Gvardiol and Szoboszlai were teammates at RB Leipzig for the last two seasons.
Liverpool acquired Szoboszlai for €70 million in the summer. Poised to shine as a regular starter at Liverpool, the 22-year-old has a bright future under Jurgen Klopp.
Meanwhile, Gvardiol faces stiff competition at Manchester City. Primarily a centre-back who also plays as left back, he will have to compete for his usual place with other noted centre-backs such as Stones, Dias, Ake, Laporte and Akanji.
However, Gvardiol is unfazed by the competition.
“I have always dreamed of one day playing in England. … this is an incredible day for me. Anyone who saw Manchester City play last season knows they are the best team in the world.” he is quoted as saying in article on sportskeeda.com.
Liverpool sought Gvardiol
Although Gvardiol is now singing the praises of Manchester City, earlier he was a Liverpool fan. And Liverpool also wanted him before he signed on with City.
To recall recent history, Josko Gvardiol secured a transfer from Dinamo Zagreb to RB Leipzig in 2021, emerging as a promising replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who was leaving for Liverpool. Gvardiol openly stated his desire to wear the Liverpool jersey after joining the German club, a passion he also communicated to Croatia’s 24Sata website.
“Liverpool (is my favourite foreign club). From a young age, I watched Liverpool games with my dad and how I grew up with just them. When I took football more seriously, I started following them, and I definitely want the Premiership and Liverpool.” Gvardiol said, according to a sportskeeda.com article.
Liverpool reportedly contacted RB Leipzig in January in its quest for Gvardiol but were told he wasn’t available. In the end, the Croatian defensive prodigy signed a five-year deal with Manchester City.
The question now: Will Jurgen Klopp look for another new centre-back? Liverpool needs a new centre-back with Virgil van Djik, 32, and Joel Matip, 31, getting on in years and Joe Gomez plagued by injuries.
